A day at the zoo

We had planned to go to the beach, but as we were getting ready, the weather started to change (of course), and it seemed too cold to go to the beach. So we changed our plan and went to the Copenhagen Zoo instead.

This is one of my favorite zoos. It is really beautiful, nicely laid out, and it is a good size zoo so it's not overwhelming like the Bronx Zoo where it is impossible to see the entire zoo on one visit, especially with small children. Some parts need renovation (and they are working on a new arctic exhibition), but the animals are well kept, and it is great to be able to see all those animals up so close. In fact, you almost wonder if those animals ever jump out of their living quarters (they're not caged) to the human side because they are so close and  separated only by a few meter wide moat.

You don't want this tiger to jump out at you though. Apparently sometime last week, a young man went into this Siberian tiger den, and was attacked and eventually killed by this and two other tigers. That was the first this ever happened in the zoo's 152-year history according to the news. A lot of people were there to catch a glimpse of this now famous tiger.

Fun day.
