We had a lot of fun for the last week with my mom being here, but it was already time for her to go back to Japan. Time flies when you are having fun...
Her flight was not until the afternoon, but we decided to leave a little early so she could do one last souvenir shopping at the Torvehallerne market, which is conveniently located near the metro station. It is only a twenty minute ride on the metro to the airport, which is so convenient!
Of course, that meant my mom would have to drag her two suitcases, one big and one small, to the market and to the station. But no problem, because she had two little helpers who were more than happy to push/pull the suitcases!
A crowded street does not faze him. |
The airport was bustling with people. Maybe it was a rush hour for departing flights, but the check-in counter seemed more crowded than I have ever seen at this airport. After checking in, we had a lousy lunch at a pub at the airport, though it seemed liked the best option available. The Copenhagen airport is really beautiful, and when you are passed the customs, they have an amazing selection of shops. But, when it comes to places to eat, the airport leaves a lot to be desired. The other choices were Burger King, pre-made sandwiches from Starbucks, and another Italian cafe serving sandwiches. That was it! Quite surprising they don't even have a single smørrebrød (the famous Danish open sandwich) shop or even a regular sandwich shop that you see all over the town. They have so many great local restaurants and merchants in Copenhagen, and I thought it would be great if they could do something like what they did at the Torvehallerne market, and bring those shops to the airport. That would make the airport really special, I think...
Mio and the Kung Fu bar. |
Quite unsatisfied with lunch, we decided to have ice cream for dessert. Of course, the only place to get ice cream was Seven Eleven, but we went in anyway. There we found out that they also had pre-made sandwiches, and they actually looked better than what we had for lunch. Hmm. I should remember this for the future... My mom, Yuto and I all bought different kinds of chocolate covered ice cream bars. And Mio bought this popsicle called "Kung Fu." The wrapper had a picture of a guy doing Kung Fu, but it didn't say what kind of flavor it was. Guess what it was?? Yes, licorice! The bottom white part had a milder flavor, but the brown part on top was pretty intense with a creamy licorice filling inside! Yumm! Maybe, if you are Danish, but unfortunately none of us liked it. Poor Mio...
After the ice cream, we said our good byes to Nana, and took the metro back home, and back to our regular routine... We really enjoyed having her here for a week, and we will miss her! Thanks and see you again soon!
Looks like you and the kids had such a great time with your mom!
ReplyDeleteNami, your kids are the most photogenic, these pictures are so adorable!
Thanks Janet! They really had a great time with my mom. Yuto was so happy to pull her suitcase, because he doesn't have one like Mio does. :)
