The Long Canal Tour

I realized last night that there are only two more full days left with my mom - she leaves on Wednesday afternoon. So we needed to make the most of the last few days. The weather was nice, and there were a couple of outdoor museums that we considered going, but we found out that the museums are closed on Mondays. I wanted to do something that would be fun for my mom, but also somewhat entertaining for the kids as well.

Going on a Canal Tour, though a very touristy thing to do, seemed to fit the bill.  My mom has never done it (I don't think?), and of course the kids would love going on a boat, wouldn't they??

The tour was quite enjoyable. You may not expect to see much from the water, but actually, the tour covered most of the attractions of Copenhagen. For example, Nyhavn, the Opera House, Little Mermaid, the Marble Church, the Queen's palace and so much more. It may take at least a few days to cover them all by foot, but from the boat, you get to see them all from a different perspective in just an hour. The guide gave us an informative commentary on each sight in three languages - Danish, English and Spanish. I learned a lot about Copenhagen, and saw a lot of great architecture old and new. But it was also nice to just be on the water feeling the sun and the nice breeze.

We saw some really big cargo ships and cruise ships in the harbor.
Copenhagen is the largest cruise ship port in Northern Europe.
Little Mermaid. There are just too many people!!
The new Opera House.
One of the world's most expensive opera houses ever built.
We went under many bridges that barely cleared our heads!
So did the kids have fun? Sure! But it only lasted about ten minutes on a one hour tour... (yikes!) They started to complain that they were hungry (again), even though we had just had a very late breakfast right before we came. I only had a little bit of Japanese rice crackers with me which they wolfed down. They fought over the last piece, Yuto lost, a crying fit. Even though he calmed down in a few minutes, they continued to complain about their hunger and kept asking when the tour will end. So much for taking the boat ride thinking they would love it. Early bedtime tonight for all of us!
