Today, we spent the day at Bakken, the world's oldest amusement park dated back to 1583! The more famous Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, is supposedly the second oldest in the world, and Bakken is like a laid-back and less fancy version of Tivoli. It is only a few stops away on the regional train from Copenhagen, and is located in a beautiful and large forest called Dyrehaven, or Deer Park, which is also a very popular place for the Danes to come for picnic, walking, or deer watching.
The amusement park is an old fashioned amusement park, with a lot of classic rides you see in most amusement parks elsewhere. This big wooden roller coaster is one of them, and it looked pretty scary! Both Mio and Yuto were still pretty young for most of the rides, so we were quite limited in our choices. But we found a few rides that were acceptable for them. It was actually Yuto's very first ride experience in an amusement park, as last time we went to Tivoli, he totally refused to get on anything. Today, he seemed pretty into it.

It looks like he is trying to get out, but actually he is enjoying his ride and is waving to me. |
Then at three o'clock, we saw the Pierrot show. Apparently, this Pierrot has been around for over 200 years, and is still one of the main attractions here. He did a cute magic show, and while we didn't understand most of what he was saying (he spoke Danish of course), it was still quite entertaining.
It is the weekend, and the place was really crowded with people. I personally liked Tivoli better, as Bakken doesn't quite have the special charm and atmosphere Tivoli has, and the clientele at Bakken was a little different as well. But the great thing about this place is that there is no entrance fee, so you can just buy the tickets (or pass) for the rides. The kids probably have to be a few years older to be able to enjoy amusement parks like this, but we still had a great time, something out of the ordinary...
You can take a horse carriage ride to and from the station, or through the woods. |
